When changing the shape and size of the nose, it is possible not only to embellish facial proportions, but also to improve breathing. Nose correction (rhinoplasty) allows to change the size, profile of the nose, form of the tip of the nose, the nose – lip angle, to narrow the nostrils, to restore the nose after an injury, to straighten the bone and cartilage septum part.
Surgery
Rhinoplasty surgery is usually performed under the general anesthesia, although sometimes, when only the tip of the nose is corrected, the local anesthesia is applied. The surgery can be performed in open or internal ways. When the surgery is performed in the open way, the incision of 3 mm is made between the nostrils and the incisions inside the nostril. When the surgery is performed in the internal way, the incisions are made only in the nostril mucosa. During the surgery, the bone and cartilage parts of the nose are corrected, various surgical actions are perfomed, which restore the nose axis, remove nasal hump, form the tip of the nose. The surgery takes from 1 to 3 hours.
The initial result of the nose shape is visible after 4 – 6 weeks after the surgery, but the formation of the final results, especially in the cartilage part of the nose, takes up to one, sometimes even up to two years.
The comment of Doctor Gintaras Papečkys
Nose correction is one of the most complex aesthetic operations, and not only because the nose is the central part of the face, which determines all of its appearance, but also due to the fact that it requires a large experience, perception of aesthetics and success of the surgeon. Any other body area does not depend on the postoperative scarring process, leading to the final result, as the nose. For this reason, the surgeon, on the basis of his experience, has to predict the final result, which can be formed only after 2 years. In this respect, the cartilage part of the nose is especially capricious.
In spite of all these circumstances, nose plastic surgery is highly effective aesthetic surgery, which radically changes the facial appearance, and sometimes the whole life.
