This surgery is recommended when the skin of the upper eyelid is folded into wrinkle and covers the upper edge of the eyelid, and the “bags”are formed in the area of the lower eyelid. The eyes look tired, a little angry, lost jaunty, youthful. The eyelid correction is usually performed for the persons over 35 – 40 years old, but sometimes the surgery is needed for younger people, when the edge of the upper eyelid fallen because of the eyelid anatomy makes the eye heavy, smaller.

Surgery

The upper eyelids are operated by removing excess skin by elliptical incision. The excess fat is also removed. The surgery is usually performed under local anesthesia. Remaining postoperative scar is hidden in the wrinkle of the upper eyelid. The lower eyelids are operated in two ways: by the external incision at the edge of the lower eyelid and by the internal incision in the eyelid conjunctiva. The surgery by the external incision is rarely performed, only in cases where the excess skin is very obvious. In this case, local anesthesia is applied. The most commonly the surgery is performed by the internal incision – inside the eyelid, so the scar does not remain. During the operation, the excess fat is removed, and, although the excess skin is not removed, it shrinks and bags disappear. The surgery takes 1-2 hours. The surgery result is long-lasting.

The upper eyelid surgery is one of the first aesthetic operations, which is determined by the patients. The removed excess skin obviously changes the appearance of the eye. After the surgery, the look becomes more fresh, more youthful, more open.
Recently, along with the classic operation, there are performed additional procedures, such as fat grafting, tissue filling with “filers”, brow lift and so on. This even more enhances the aesthetic results. In this case, each surgeon differently (depending on his experience, perception of aesthetics) applies these measures. I often perform additional corrections around the eyelids by fat grafting, I perform lifting of the lateral edge of the eyelid or of all eyebrow. Then the result is definitely completed and very nice.
