Abdominoplasty is a surgical operation which involves the removal of excess skin in the abdominal area, liposuction, firming the muscular abdominal wall. Abdominoplasty is recommended when the weight significantly reduces, the skin is sagging, after pregnancy the skin does not tighten, the navel is sagging, the “bulging” belly remains, or when the skin falls under the site of the incision made at the gynecological operations. Usually, this surgery is performed for women, it is not such effective for men and is applicable only in certain cases. There are two types of abdominoplasty – complete and partial.
The surgery is usually performed under epidural anesthesia with general sedation. The incision is made in the lower part of the abdomen, above the pubic hair, it is arc-shaped. After separation of the skin and the subcutaneous layer from abdominal wall muscles, the abdominal wall is strengthened by special joints, the skin and subcutaneous excess is removed, and the remaining skin and subcutaneous defect is covered with the skin and subcutaneous tissue taken from above the navel. The shared umbilical ring is sewn into the new place. If the changes are only in the lower part of the abdomen below the navel, then the partial abdominal wall plastics is performed. During this procedure, the excess skin below the navel is removed through the shorter incision, the abdominal wall is fixed, the navel base is lowered down. Complete abdominoplasty lasts for 3 – 5 hours, partial – for 1 – 2 hours.
The comment of Dr. G. Papečkys:
The objective of the abdominal wall plastics is to remove abdominal skin excess, remove the abdominal wall “bulge“ (which usually occurs after childbirth), and during this surgery by liposuction there can be corrected the lumbar area, buttocks, thigh, as well as the subcutaneous fat layer of the remaining abdominal skin parts can be removed. These objectives can be achieved during the abdominal wall plastic surgery. It is really a very efficient surgery, during which, by correcting the body contours of the abdomen and waist areas, the waist is highlighted, the figure becomes more youthful.
It is often claimed that the abdominal wall configuration can be corrected by special exercises, diet. Yes, that’s partly true, but these methods are suitable only under certain circumstances, for example, a woman did not give birth, moderate fat deposits are in the lower abdominal part, there is no excess skin, the abdominal wall muscles are not stretched. However, if the lower abdominal part remains changed after childbirth, and the excess skin is manifested as ptosis in the navel area, hanging in the lower part of the abdomen, stretch marks, you certainly will not achieve the desired result without abdominoplasty.
The situation with men
Men are operated then, after successful weight loss, the belly is collapsed, is sagging because of the excess skin. Then, during abdominoplasty, the removed excess skin gives a very good result. It should be noted that the lumbar fat (“lifebuoy“) suction for men is always very effective, it embelishes the body contours, gives masculinity. After men have their subcutaneous layer of fat in the abdominal area sucked, the abdominal bloating prominently reduces, because it is easier for the abdominal muscles to hold not such heavy skin and subcutaneous layer. We recommend the suction of the so-called “lifebuoy“ abdominal subcutaneous tissue fat even for the infarction prophylaxis.
