Mommy makeover – the opportunity to return to the former „self.“

The phrase “mommy makeover” commonly used in plastic surgery refers to – tummy and breast plastic surgery. Without a doubt, motherhood is a unique experience, but during it, the body undergoes changes. However, there are situations where the body changes are so pronounced that women struggle not only with lost self-confidence but also with discomfort.

During pregnancy, a woman's body prepares for the arrival of a newborn – breasts enlarge and firm up in preparation for breastfeeding, while the abdominal cavity expands to give the fetus enough space to develop. The entire woman's body and system prepare for new life, but as a result, the skin suffers: in many cases, stretch marks develop due to rapidly increasing breasts and abdomen, and after giving birth, the skin does not return to its previous state, the woman's waist loses its shape, and the abdomen sags.

Tummy and breast plastic surgery typically includes breast augmentation with implants and abdominoplasty. However, there are various cases, so surgeries can be combined according to individual patient needs.

Possible combinations of surgeries:

· Breast lift provides an aesthetic appearance for sagging breasts;

· Breast augmentation – breast enlargement with implants;

· Liposuction – eliminates fat deposits in various areas of the body;

· Abdominoplasty or tummy tuck – removal of excess skin and tightening of the abdominal wall muscles;

· Intimate area plastic surgery – correction of the vagina, labia, or clitoris.

What is important to know?

Before the surgery, it is essential to visit and consult with a plastic surgeon. Do not hesitate to ask questions and consult with several plastic surgeons – this way, you will find the most suitable one for you. Also, for smokers, it is necessary to quit this habit at least 6-8 weeks before the scheduled surgery, as smoking reduces blood flow to the skin, resulting in a longer healing process. It is also important to note for breastfeeding mothers – it is recommended to plan the surgery (breast augmentation and lift) about 6 months after finishing breastfeeding, so the body has time to recover from hormonal changes.

Post-operative period and healing process:

The healing process depends on the types of surgeries chosen and other personal characteristics. However, generally speaking, recovery after breast lift surgery takes about 2 to 3 weeks, after liposuction approximately from 1 to 3 weeks, and after tummy tuck surgery, you can return to your normal life rhythm about a month after the surgery. It is important to mention that after the surgery, there is some discomfort, visible swelling, and bruising, but do not be alarmed, this is a normal body reaction.

Although it is recommended to walk after the surgery to avoid blood clots, more active physical activity and lifting heavy objects should be limited for about 8 weeks after the surgery.

After the surgery, it is necessary to visit the plastic surgeon who performed the operation for examination at least twice. You will be able to enjoy the final result approximately 6 months after the surgery.
