Post-operative care: 1 night at the clinic
Repeat operation: Performed once
Results: For a long time
Tuning: Liposuction is often performed at the same time.

Abdominoplasty is a surgical procedure that removes excess skin from the abdomen, removes fat, and strengthens the abdominal wall. Abdominoplasty is recommended when the skin sags after significant weight loss, the skin does not shrink after pregnancy, the navel sags, and the abdomen remains „bloated,” or when the skin above the incision, also known as the „apron,“ has fallen after gynecological surgeries. Sagging skin is not only an aesthetic problem, but also causes a lot of inconvenience: the skin is shunted in the fallen area, rashes appear, and skin diseases can occur that make it difficult to walk, stand, or sit.

Abdominoplasty is most often performed on women, but it is less effective for men and is only used in certain cases. There are full and partial abdominoplasty.

Liposuction is often performed along with a tummy tuck, and the removed fat can also be transplanted to other areas of the body that need to be beautified.

Operation

Abdominoplasty is usually performed under general anesthesia with general sedation. The incision is made in the lower abdomen, above the pubic hair, and is arch-shaped. After separating the skin and subcutaneous layer from the abdominal wall muscles, the abdominal wall is reinforced with special sutures, excess skin and subcutaneous tissue are removed, and the remaining skin and subcutaneous defect is covered with skin and subcutaneous tissue located above the navel. The removed umbilical ring is sewn into a new place. If the changes are only in the lower abdomen below the navel, then a partial abdominoplasty is performed. During this, excess skin below the navel is removed through a shorter incision, the abdominal wall is reinforced, and the base of the navel is lowered down.
A full abdominoplasty takes 3-5 hours, a partial one takes 1-2 hours. Drains are usually not left in place.

After surgery

After the operation, the patient must spend one day in the clinic. A special corset is put on him and full body extension is limited. The corset must be worn for 4-6 weeks. The stitches are removed after 10-14 days. Physical activity is limited for 4-6 weeks. After a partial abdominoplasty, the patient is sometimes discharged home the same day.

Comment by Dr. G. Papečkis:

The goal of abdominoplasty is to remove excess abdominal skin, reduce the "bulging" of the abdominal wall (which usually occurs in women after childbirth), and during this operation, liposuction can be used to correct the waist, buttocks, and thighs, as well as reduce the subcutaneous fat layer of the remaining parts of the abdominal skin. These goals can be achieved during abdominoplasty. This is a truly effective operation, during which the waist is emphasized by correcting the body contours in the abdomen and waist areas, the figure becomes more youthful.
It is often stated that the configuration of the abdominal wall can be adjusted with special physical exercises and diet. Yes, this is partly true, but these methods are only suitable under certain circumstances, for example, a woman has not given birth, there is moderate fat accumulation in the lower abdomen, there is no excess skin, and the abdominal wall muscles are not stretched. However, if the lower abdomen remains altered after childbirth, and the excess skin is manifested by sagging in the navel area, sagging in the lower abdomen, and stretch marks, you will definitely not achieve the desired effect without abdominoplasty.

Physical exercise won't help.

Exercise will not help reduce the swelling of the lower abdomen due to the separation of the rectus abdominis muscles during pregnancy (permanent abdominal distension). Abdominoplasty is very effective in treating abdominal distension due to the separation of the abdominal muscles, because these muscles are tightened during the operation. Excess skin that has formed after pregnancy can also only be removed surgically. Usually, the stretched skin with stretch marks is below the navel, and during the operation, this area of the abdominal skin is removed, so often after abdominoplasty there is no skin with stretch marks at all.
Liposuction effectively corrects the waist area, so after abdominoplasty and waist correction, you can "return" to the appearance you had before giving birth.

The situation with men

The situation with men is somewhat different, since their problems in the abdominal area are mainly related to the accumulation of fat inside the abdomen (intestinal hernia, fatty tissue), so in such a situation the operation will not be effective. Men are operated on when, after successful weight loss, the abdomen sags, sags due to excess skin. Then the excess skin removed during abdominoplasty gives a very good result. It should be noted that the suction of fat in the lumbar region ("lifebuoy") for men is always very effective, it beautifies the contours of the body, gives masculinity.
It should also be emphasized that in men, abdominal fat removal significantly reduces abdominal bloating, as it is easier for the abdominal muscles to maintain a less heavy layer of skin and subcutaneous tissue. We even recommend the so-called "lifebuoy" abdominal fat removal for heart attack prevention.
