Breast surgery has been one of the most popular plastic surgeries for many years. Breast augmentation most commonly involves breast implants, but breast lifts, fat grafting, or surgeries using special sutures are also possible.
During breast augmentation surgery with implants, various implant insertion methods are possible – they can be inserted through an incision under the breast, around the nipple, through the armpit, or through the navel. The implant is placed in a pocket created in the breast tissue, which can be above the pectoral muscle, under the muscle fascia, under the mammary gland, or partially under the muscle and partially under the gland. In breast augmentation surgery with fat, it is suctioned from one part of the body, specially prepared, and transplanted into the breast. Special surgical threads can also be used for breast correction, which are used to fix and lift breast tissue, leaving no scars.
Breast augmentation is most often chosen for various reasons, such as a naturally small bust or breast asymmetry. Beautiful breasts often change after childbirth or weight loss as well.
When considering surgery, we always recommend coming in for a consultation with Dr. Gintaras Papečkys. During the consultation, you can discuss potential surgical methods, and the doctor will suggest the most optimal one for you, as well as show you before and after photos of his work. During the consultation, you will learn about implants, their characteristics, and the implants used in Lithuania, as well as how they differ. You will be able to examine and feel them. The doctor will recommend an implant size based on your breasts, making it much easier for you to decide on surgery and choose suitable implants. During the consultation, it will be decided whether to use only one method or a combination of methods, as sometimes one surgical approach yields a less satisfactory result than combining several. Afterward, if you decide to proceed with surgery, measurements will be taken, the pre-operative regimen will be explained, and you will be informed about the necessary tests.
Every surgeon has their own concept of beauty, their own style, and their own experience. When you go for a consultation with the surgeon you’ve chosen, you should talk to them to understand their concept of beauty—for example, how they perceive the beauty of the breasts. Of course, you should express your preferences, but often the surgeon will suggest options that they believe would be better. An experienced specialist will back up their claims with reasoning and show you examples of their work. Don’t limit yourself to just one surgeon; visit several and choose the one whose concept of beauty is closest to your own.
If you believe you need breast correction, that is your choice, but the final decision will be made together with a professional, taking into account your desires, expectations, and the condition of your breasts. In any case, the decision about the surgery will ultimately be yours to make.
Breast surgeries are generally not performed on girls under 18 years old, although certain exceptions are possible. Surgery is not performed if specific diseases are present. It is also not recommended to have surgery during breastfeeding or less than six months after breastfeeding, as breasts can change during this period.
All breast surgeries at Gintaras Papeckis' clinic are performed according to a special protocol, and a reliable and highly qualified staff works in the operating room. Before the surgery, the doctor's team determines the degree of surgical risk, evaluates the performed tests, and, if necessary, conducts special examinations.
The cost of the operation includes services received at the clinic: the surgery, anesthesia, and medications used (including medications prescribed both before and after the surgery). If breast surgery with an overnight stay is planned, the cost of accommodation, nursing care, meals, and other special measures are also included.
Before the operation, you must follow the doctor's instructions, undergo the necessary blood tests, and take prescribed medications. You should arrive at the clinic clean for the operation. Do not apply creams or lotions to the areas to be operated on. At the clinic, you will be provided with special clothing, a gown, slippers, and essential personal hygiene items. On the morning of the operation, you will not be able to eat or drink, nor drive a car. If the operation is scheduled for the afternoon, at least 4 hours must have passed since your last meal and drink. You can eat normally the evening before the operation, although it is advisable to drink more fluids than usual.
If the implant insertion is standard and the breasts are small, the surgery may take 40-50 minutes. However, for complex surgeries, such as fat grafting, areola lifting, or thread lifting, the duration can be 2-3 hours.
The methods of performing the operation depend on its type. Various types of breast augmentation can be chosen, including breast lift, fat grafting, or breast reduction. Most often, breast augmentation with implants is combined with fat grafting. The fat is taken from one part of the body and transferred to the breasts. Liposuction for corrective purposes can be combined with breast augmentation.
Breast surgery is most often combined with a breast lift or fat transfer, but it can also be performed alongside completely unrelated procedures, such as rhinoplasty or, in some cases, abdominoplasty. However, it is not possible to perform many corrections at once, as this prolongs the duration of the surgery, increases its scope, and raises the likelihood of risks. For these reasons, we strive to combine breast surgeries with minimal procedures. Patients often choose procedures for the facial area, such as fat transfer or a PRP procedure.
All skin wounds heal within approximately one week. However, recovery and return to work depend heavily on the extent of the performed surgery and the nature of the work. If the work is office-based and involves computer use, you can return to it one week after surgery. If the work involves hand movements and is physical, it will require 6 weeks.
The most common reason for needing a repeat surgery is bleeding into the implant pocket. In such cases, repeat surgery is usually required within the first 24 hours—the incision must be examined and the bleeding stopped. Later revisions may be necessary due to scarring of the implant capsule, implant rotation, or implant displacement. Sometimes the shape of the breasts changes over time. All of the cases listed here are rare.
After breast augmentation with implants, the effect is visible immediately, although it is not the final result. The full result after breast augmentation is usually visible after approximately 6 months, when the implant „settles“ into place and all tissues adapt to it. However, it's important to remember that breasts with implants change throughout life. If additional procedures such as breast lift or fat grafting are performed, a longer waiting period is required – the result immediately after surgery may not be completely aesthetic, but it will later become as intended, so the patient will need to be patient and wait.
Currently, an operation without a scar is impossible. If breast augmentation is performed with an implant, the scar will be 4 cm long, depending on the chosen location. If a breast lift is performed, the scar may be around the areola, its edge, or in a racket or anchor shape. Recently, an internal breast lift has also been performed, in which case there is only one scar – 4 cm under the breast for placing the implant.
This is not a major operation, and the person will not be completely incapacitated – they will be able to walk and go for strolls. However, it is recommended to maintain a calmer regimen, for example, refraining from any household chores or cooking. If there is a young child, someone must help lift them for at least the first week. Nevertheless, movement after breast surgery is necessary.
Since the wound is covered and heals in about a week, it cannot be touched. The wound should not be wet after surgery as there is a risk of infection. For at least a week until the skin heals, it must be bandaged and waterproof. Although special bandages that allow showering are sometimes used, we usually do not recommend this, and you will have to wash yourself without a shower, using other means. You also need to wear a special bra.
We can boast that Dr. Gintaras Papečkys has extensive experience, having accumulated many examples and diverse cases over his many years of practice. Thanks to experience, we can better predict the likely outcome of the surgery, and we believe our understanding of beauty is superior. However, beauty is your choice.
Surgeries are performed under general anesthesia. Pain is common during the postoperative period, but it is not usually severe, so we prescribe over-the-counter pain relievers, which are generally sufficient.
Repeat surgeries are very rare.
Scars remain after breast surgery, and they depend on the type of surgery. For example, with breast augmentation using implants, scars of about 4 cm in length remain which are barely noticeable, and if a breast lift is performed, the scar can be around the areola and extend downwards through the breast tissue.
You can leave the day after your breast augmentation surgery.
It is recommended to fly no earlier than 5-7 days after surgery. Usually, after a week we invite you to the clinic for a dressing change and a doctor's examination, so one week is the recommended period to stay.
