Fat grafting to the face

Fat grafting is a procedure in which fat is taken from a patient and transplanted to another area of the body to augment it. Most often, fat is taken from areas where there is excess fat, such as the abdomen, thighs, or hips. Therefore, fat grafting is frequently performed in conjunction with liposuction. Recently, fat grafting has most commonly been performed on the face.

Facial fat

Around the age of 30, the amount of fat in the face gradually begins to diminish. Most of the time, we try to get rid of fat in the abdominal, thigh, or buttock areas because it is undesirable. However, the situation is the opposite with facial fat. It is the fat in the face that maintains a youthful appearance. As soon as we start to lose it, we gradually begin to age. The face loses its „fullness,“ it sags, and the cheeks become hollow.

Procedure

As science progresses rapidly, it has been proven that adipose tissue contains stem cells responsible for regeneration processes. By learning to use one's own fat, a real opportunity has arisen to naturally slow down time. Specifically, the stem cells found in fat help facial skin to naturally renew itself, thus, concurrently slowing down aging processes.

The harvested fat is specially processed to separate blood, degraded fats, and fluids, and then injected with a syringe and cannula into areas with fat deficiency. The fat is used to create beautiful facial shapes, similar to facial contouring. It can be injected into the cheeks, chin, under-eye area, and lips. Typically, about 30-70% of the fat grafts successfully. This is considered a good result.

Fat grafting to the face rejuvenates it, making it look more vibrant, restores facial volume, creating fullness. The face looks less tired, and skin quality improves.
During fat grafting procedures, unlike various tissue fillers, facial contours are corrected with your body's own natural substance. This aspect is very important for people who are allergic or sensitive to collagen or other synthetically derived products. Furthermore, transferred fat generally lasts longer in the face than various tissue fillers, and procedures need to be repeated significantly less often.

In 2011, Doctor Gintaras Papečkys was the first in Lithuania to perform a fat grafting procedure on the face. The experience gained and the clearly visible patient results allow this procedure to be recommended as one of the most advanced and natural aesthetic medicine tools for maintaining facial youthfulness.
