Botulinum toxin injections

Botulinum toxin is a medical product intended to correct mimic - dynamic wrinkles. These wrinkles can be divided into certain groups according to the areas of the face:

• surprise wrinkles – appear on the forehead when the eyebrows are raised;
• frown lines that appear between the eyebrows when frowning;
• laugh lines or "crow's feet" that appear around the eyes when laughing.

Botulinum injections (often simply called „Botox injections“) also help correct other areas, such as nose wrinkles, wrinkles around the lips, and wrinkles on the neck and décolleté. The principle of action of this substance is that the muscles into which botulinum injections have been injected no longer receive electrical impulses that previously caused them to contract, and they become inactive. Since the muscles no longer move, the skin in that area smoothes out and no longer forms wrinkles.

Benefits of botulinum injection:

• the procedure is easy,
• no special preparation is required,
• short procedure duration.

Botulinum toxin injections are also used to treat excessive sweating. More about this Read here.

The biggest downside of the procedure is that the results of botulinum injections only last 4-6 months. Later, the muscles become mobile again and the procedure needs to be repeated.
It is especially important that beauty injections are performed by a doctor who knows his job, because you need to know exactly where to inject the substance. When injections are performed by non-specialists, complications usually occur and the result is not as expected.

The cost of botulinum injections can vary depending on the area being corrected, how many zones are being corrected in total, and what manufacturer of the product is used. The cost of botulinum injections will always be explained by the doctor who examined you during the consultation. Consultation with a doctor is necessary, because often during it the doctor can offer the person another product that is more suitable in his case.

Comment by Dr. G. Papečkis:

It can be said that fillers and botulinum have recently revolutionized body aesthetics, because their ease of use and effectiveness have made them easily accessible and very popular, involving people in the improvement of body aesthetics on a massive scale. The disadvantage is that often, especially in Lithuania, when they are administered by non-doctors, many cases of overdose and other complications are observed, of which all those related to the introduction of infection are especially dangerous.
It should be emphasized that these methods, although they have become very popular and are very effective, have not replaced surgery for classical facial aesthetics, but have significantly delayed the need for it and very well complement the result obtained during surgery. Surgery remains, because it is impossible to remove excess skin that has formed with age in any other way. It is also impossible to effectively and permanently lift sagging facial tissues without surgical intervention. On the other hand, the volume of operations has significantly decreased, which has become easier for the patient to bear and he can return to normal life faster.
