Liposuction is the surgical removal of fatty tissue. It is used to perform various body contouring procedures that help sculpt the figure. The extracted fat can be transplanted to another area of the body.

Liposuction is a procedure that should not be confused with weight loss. Up to 6 liters of adipose tissue can be removed during liposuction. For an obese patient, this is a small amount, but when removed from one area of the body, it can significantly change its contour. The cost of liposuction can vary greatly and depends on the number of areas being corrected and their size. The price is determined during a consultation with a plastic surgeon, when your specific situation is seen.

The most popular operations are abdominal liposuction, buttock and hip correction, and thigh liposuction. Of course, in addition to these main operations, correction and modeling of various other parts of the body are also performed: the larynx, cheeks, upper arms, chest area, back, knees, and calves.

During the operation, a cannula is inserted into the subcutaneous fatty tissue prepared with a special solution through a 3–4 mm skin incision, through which the fat is removed. The classic method is mechanical, in which the fat enters the cannula through the opening during mechanical movement of the hand and is removed with the help of a pump.
Special devices are also used that cause vibrations in the cannula, thus removing fat with a pump. Ultrasonic energy, laser, cold (cryodestruction) can also be used, with the help of which the fatty tissue is broken down and removed. All of these methods have their own specific advantages and disadvantages. If the fatty tissue removed during suction is not broken down, it can be transplanted to another area of the body. Thus, this procedure can effectively model the body contour.

Body contouring with liposuction and transplantation is one of the main procedures in aesthetic surgery, which has great potential for correcting the aesthetic appearance of the body. Liposuction is constantly improving. New devices are emerging that facilitate fat removal, cause less trauma, allow the operation to be performed more precisely in areas where the classic mechanical method was not suitable, and remove a larger amount of fat without risk to the patient. The removed, unbroken adipose tissue is used for transplantation to other areas of the body. This is the most natural way to change body shapes. The adipose tissue takes root and that area looks very natural without noticeable signs of correction, which is currently very fashionable, since patients do not want the correction to be visible. Transplanted adipose tissue not only changes the shape of that area, but also has a very positive effect on the quality of the skin, as it contains many regenerating substances, stem cells (adipose tissue is one of the sources of stem cells). The regenerative properties of adipose tissue are one of the greatest discoveries in aesthetic medicine, changing the entire direction of development of aesthetic medicine.

Currently, liposuction at the GP clinic is performed using the Lipomatic device, which has greatly improved the procedure for liposuction and transplantation. With the help of this device, the cannula vibrates back and forth and around its axis at a low frequency. The cannula slides easily and painlessly through the fatty tissue. The vibrating movements separate this tissue from the surrounding tissues, and the pump easily removes them. During the operation, less blood is removed, blood vessels are less damaged, and subcutaneous structures are not destroyed, so the skin contracts beautifully after the operation.
Since the fat removed in this way is not broken down, it can be transplanted to other areas of the body. The introduction of a special fat harvesting, collection and preparation kit for transplantation has further improved safety and the adhesion of the transplanted tissue. This is especially relevant when transplanting large amounts of fat tissue, such as to the breasts and buttocks.
