Breast reduction

Breast reduction is performed on women who have excessively large breasts that prevent them from living a full life. They interfere with sports, cause back and neck pain, breathing problems, are too conspicuous, shape a certain perception of the woman that often makes career advancement difficult, distort overall body proportions, cause difficulties in choosing clothes, and can affect personal life and relationships.

Breast reduction surgery

During the surgery, a portion of the fat, skin, and glands is removed, reducing not only the breasts themselves but also overly enlarged areolas. Breast reduction can be performed with a circular incision around the nipple, an inverted T-shaped incision, or an incision around the nipple combined with a vertical incision extending to the breast crease. After making the incision, the nipple is carefully repositioned, and the breast's shape is reformed. Visible scars remain at the incision sites, which fade over time.

After surgery

After breast reduction surgery, bandages are applied, and the patient needs to wear a special bra that supports the breasts for a while until the healing process is complete. For some time, there may be a feeling of aching, swelling, puffiness, and pain, which can be managed with medication. Within 1-2 weeks after this surgery, it is possible to return to work, and after 1-2 months, one can resume physical activity. The results of the surgery are long-lasting and visible immediately.

The recovery process after breast reduction surgery is a bit longer than after a breast lift surgery, so you need to be prepared in advance that complete recovery will only occur after a few months.

Dr. G. Papečkys's commentary

Breast reduction surgery is performed when breasts are not only saggy but also too large. Sometimes they are so large and heavy that they even cause spinal deformities and skin irritations. During this surgery, not only are the areolas lifted, but the volume of the breasts is also reduced, which is why the scars are always larger. An effectively reduced and shaped breast almost always improves the patient's quality of life and solves problems associated with the large weight.
